This poster presentation will introduce KGU’s Super IES Program’s collaboration with The University of Alabama by explaining the motivations for creating the program, describing the structure and implementation of the curriculum, detailing the teaching philosophy, discussing outcomes, and providing guidance for other educational institutions considering creating study abroad programs.
From EFL to ELF: cultivating a globalised conception of English among college students MichaelSharpe - Kochi National University
This poster describes an undergraduate level course that is designed to encourage a more globalised conception of English, not as a foreign language but as a lingua franca. The course objectives are to sensitize students to the diversity and variety in English worlwide and to look beyond the native model that predominates in English education. This is seen as having multiple benefits for Japanese learners, particularly those who study abroad. The hoped-for outcomes are that they will develop a thorough understanding of the English as it is used around the world, greater confidence in their own language skills, and enhance cross-cultural understanding and empathy. The course objectives, syllabus, sources and outcomes are all discussed.
*Several poster presentations by university students will also be featured during this session.
